Respect for children's rights to grow up in a better world is under siege

Children are the future’s innovators, leaders, scientists, artists and mentors. And they are today’s changemakers. Children are increasingly aware that though they are least responsible for the crises we face, they are the ones who are most threatened by their impact, today and tomorrow:

  • Today’s generation of children is the first to grow up in a world made far more dangerous as a result of climate change.

  • Poverty is rising, exacerbated by the ripple effects of COVID-19.

  • Child labor and child marriage remain prevalent, robbing millions of their childhoods.

  • In low-income countries, 95 percent of those disabled will never have access to wheelchairs, hearing aids, glasses and other assistive technologies.

Without change, children face a grim future, and we risk a tragic waste of potential – for these children, their families, national economies and society. Children’s futures affect us all.

Above, environmental activist Greta Thunberg, children of all ages and UNICEF sound the alarm on climate change.
