FOR EVERY CHILD: ANNUAL REPORT HIGHLIGHTS
To rise to the steep challenges presented by the second year of the pandemic, UNICEF tirelessly led the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines while providing essential services to children facing difficult and ever-changing circumstances. UNICEF USA played a key role in delivering this impact for children’s health, education and protection worldwide — even breaking our own fundraising records during a year of quick pivots and demanding priorities. Our combined work to create a more equitable world for every child is reflected in this year’s annual report.
During Fiscal Year 2021, UNICEF USA helped enable UNICEF to:
Deliver, as the lead partner for COVAX, 910 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to 144 countries. The pandemic response also included therapeutics. UNICEF sent 40,084 oxygen concentrators to 90 countries and 12 million COVID-19 diagnostic kits to 62 countries.
Respond to 455 new and ongoing humanitarian situations in 152 countries and treat nearly 5 million children with severe wasting across more than 70 countries.
Support more than 301 million children with remote learning and provide 43 million children with individual education materials as the pandemic continued to cause school closures and delays, and as children in humanitarian settings continued to require such assistance.
Redouble routine childhood vaccination efforts after the pandemic caused setbacks in this bedrock priority, ultimately procuring 1.9 billion vaccine doses for children in 102 countries, despite lockdowns and delays.
Support the implementation of climate-resistant water, sanitation and health solutions in 46 countries, and, more immediately, reach 47 million people with safe water.
